Description
Landing at a Hobby Shop near you (or perhaps being towed) the US Navy Corsair! Being very quick and highly maneuverable, this American Aircraft was more than a match for the Japanese planes that it encountered during WWII. To ensure air dominance, the US wrapped it up in so much armor, it was literally bullet-proof! Following the type F4U-1 (and F4U-1A) mainly deployed to the Marine air bases, the type F4U-1D became the first Corsair version to be officially approved for Aircraft Carrier operation in April 1944. Many modifications were made to the Corsair: Raised pilot seat Frameless bubble canopy to improve visibility, and larger blade propeller were adopted. In addition to the six 12.7mm machine guns, the F4U-1D featured a 900kg payload for bombs or extra fuel tanks. If strafing and bombing weren’t enough, the Corsair could always be relied upon to blast it’s target to smithereens with the 8 rockets strapped onto the outer wings! When the US Navy began to conduct air strikes on the Japanese homeland in February 1945, the F4U-1D demonstrated its true effectiveness as a fighter bomber. The small but powerful US Moto-Tug (or aircraft tug) featured a ridiculously small turning radius. This made it ideal for maneuvering planes on crowded runways, especially on the jam-packed runways of an Aircraft Carrier. Equipped with a massive (and durable) steel bumper, a high torque 45hp engine and double rear tires, this vehicle was able to tow almost two tons! Moto-Tugs could be seen on the flight decks of both massive aircraft carriers and smaller escort class aircraft carriers. Tamiya is proud to introduce the US Navy’s masterpiece aircraft, F4U-1D with towing tractor Moto-Tug, into their 1/48 Aircraft Series. The intrepid silhouette of the aircraft is unmistakable, this is probably one of the most recognizable planes of WWII. In fact, even being close to 60 years old, the lines and curves of the Corsair are seemingly timeless. The bubble canopy, double-slung wings and the massive propeller only add to the appeal. Speaking of the inverted gull wings, they can be assembled in the folded or unfolded positions. Tamiya has included parts that allow you to model two extra fuel tanks and eight rockets. Tamiya has long been recognized as the World’s leader in high quality model kits; the Corsair will not disappoint! The fit and finish of the model are flawless, even the contents of the box are neatly organized —and the instructions are bullet-proof. Tamiya has even supplied all the parts needed to set up your Moto-Tug pulling your Corsair from the front or the back! You may also set the canopy in the open or closed position. A pilot and a Moto-Tug driver figure, as well as three types of decals are also included. Your local Canadian Authorized Tamiya Retailer will have this awesome aircraft in
